Concierge
It is our aim to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Whether you want to find a local babysitter, book extra housekeeping or locate a great chef, we are here to help.
If you are visiting England from overseas then we can reduce the uncertainty and hassle of your holiday by helping you to discover the local area, find the services you need and providing a helping hand if you have any problems.
Here is a short list of things that we can help with. Those that usually require arrangement well in advance (particularly in high season) are marked with a '*'. Please be aware that in our experience these can be very hard, if not impossible, to find at short notice. Services provided directly by us that must be booked at the time you make your reservation are indicated with a '+' and are subject to availability.
Additional Housekeeping (+)
We can provide extra housekeeping services in any of our houses and cottages, ranging from a couple of hours of extra help once a week to full daily housekeeping. If you would like a mid week linen change then this is also possible, please book it at the time of your reservation. Additional laundry services are available if booked in advance, please enquire.
Chefs, Cooks and Catering (*)
We have a list of chefs and cooks that we work with, some local and some national, to suit various culinary needs and budgets, ranging from people who can come in to help you with a single meal to advanced chefs who can deliver meals of the highest quality. There are also several local suplliers who can deliver locally pre-prepared meals to your door of excellent quality. For larger parties we can help you to arrange waiting staff should they be needed.
Babysitters - registered and unregistered (*)
Babysitters can usually be arranged for you with sufficient notice. If you would like a registered childminder rather than an informal sitter this can be considerably harder to find and we do advise that you ask about this at the earliest opportunity. Unregistered babysitters are usually easier to find but we still advise early booking, particularly in the high season.
Restaurants
We can reccomend a number of local restaurants at various levels of budget. We do advise early booking, particularly at the most popular establishments such as the Michelin starred Gidleigh Park, which can become fully booked many weeks ahead in the high season.
Therapies - Yoga, Reflexology, Massage
The local area is fortunate to enjoy a range of very good therapists in most fields and we can help you find one to suit you.
Local Attractions, Parks and Centres
You will find a bound folder in your cottage or house which has details of all the main local attractions and activities, but should you wish to have a chat about any of them, or look for something more off the beaten track, then please call us. We have been to many of these ourselves and have a good idea as to what suits children of different ages.
Horse Riding and Carriage Driving
There are a number of local riding stables, all within three miles and one just a few hundred metres up the road, along with several local carriage driving stables. If you would like to discuss the local riding in more detail then we are very happy to do so, and should you be a rider and wish to bring your horse please enquire as we often have room in our own stables. If we do not have room then there is a livery yard in easy walking distance of Sweeton. There is a sand school by Martin Collins (20Mx40M) which is available for use by arrangement.
Canoeing and White Water Rafting
The Dart River is a noted destination for fans of white water. What is considered to be the best and wildest stretch of the river starts just three miles away and the lower reaches just below that provide a gentler, less demanding experience suitable for beginners along a stretch of river of surpassing natural beauty. There are several local companies and organisations that operate alomg this river and we can put you in touch with one appropriate to your needs.
Country Sports
Opportunities to indulge in or learn country sports abound locally. We know good local teachers for fly fishing, shooting and hawking and can help you connect with the right person for your level of skill, from beginner to advanced. Children seem to particularly enjoy learning to fly fish.
Cycling
Mountain bike hire is available from a number of local companies, and we can arrange a guide for you if needed. We do advise early reservation of bikes and guides in the high season as Dartmoor is a very popular destination for these activities.
Concierge services are available during normal office hours and are subject to our normal Terms and Conditions. They may not be available during your stay if your stay is during public holidays or in the low season, so if you have particular requirements please be sure to communicate these at the time of booking.
